  1. That’s not a good recap start.
  2. I’m not ready for Joel. I will cry.
  3. Is this baby Joel and Tommy?
  4. Joel has always been a protector.
  5. Did his dad really just give Joel a beer?
  6. Just because you haven’t broken their jaws doesn’t mean hitting them is alright.
  7. Not a great parental figure there.
  8. Probably a good thing Joel ended up with Sarah, and then Ellie. But Ellie is following a little too closely in those footsteps now.
  9. NOT JOEL BACK IN THE OPENING CREDIT SEQUENCE
  10. Legos? Oh my god.
  11. Was he ordering a cake for Ellie?
  12. Oh man, he was decorating the guitar. I am tearing up already.
  13. Ellie is on so many painkillers right now. She’s loopy.
  14. She really did just want to wear short sleeves.
  15. Ellie really just dove into that cake. Haha
  16. Happy 15th birthday Eli. We shall now call Ellie Eli.
  17. I loved this relationship. Seeing sassy Ellie and grumpy Joel makes me so happy.

  20. I love that Joel thinks Ellie has a crush on Jesse. It’s so funny.
  21. I promise you I won’t get pregnant. Oh Ellie.

  23. And she climbs it too, just like the game. I am smiling so widely at this scene.
  24. This is so beautiful. And so endearing.
  25. I really want to know how Joel found that tape.
  26. I just want to pretend nothing bad happens after this. Everything is happy and cute and nobody gets killed.
  27. Seth got her name right on this cake.
  28. Well, Joel knows that Ellie doesn’t like Jesse now.

  30. So, Ellie moved into the garage after Joel was an idiot about Cat. Got it.
  31. And Joel fixed the garage for her. He’s trying his best.
  32. He’s trying so hard and I want to cry.
  33. Gail is back.

  35. The moths symbolize death. Fitting for Ellie.
  36. At least let Gail know the reason for the question. You did interrupt her lunch.

  38. She really was patient about patrol. Three years.

  40. So, Ellie found out about the truth and lost Joel in less than one year.
  41. Oh my god. Is it Eugene?
  42. Welp, someone didn’t make it.
  43. Why am I so tense when this is a flashback?
  44. Wait, did Joel not let Gail say goodbye?
  45. Ellie’s first patrol and she faces a bitten Eugene.
  46. Joel, don’t do it.
  47. Joel, no. You could have let him have a moment with his wife.
  48. I get why Gail is so angry now. And why Ellie is questioning Joel’s promise.
  49. Ellie is so mad now.
  50. If Ellie said he had time, then he had time to get back to his wife.
  51. I get that Joel wants to save Gail pain, but lying really doesn’t help.
  52. And here comes Ellie to completely wreck that.
  53. He deserved that slap.
  54. I get that Ellie is mad, but also, she just hurt Gail so much more. Gail was an innocent in that.
  55. So, it was nine months.
  56. Ellie never went back to Salt Lake, but instead, realized that Joel would lie to protect people. But that lying can hurt more later on.
  57. Uncle Grumpy. Oh god.
  58. Uncle Grumpy is family. I’m crying.
  59. Joel wants to protect Ellie in every way, but he doesn’t know how to fix what he did.
  60. If he had survived, I’m not sure if that relationship could ever fully heal, but there was a chance. And Abby ruined that.
  61. Of course, he’s drinking coffee.
  62. Joel, tell her the truth.
  63. Pedro Pascal’s acting here is amazing.
  64. He hasn’t said a word and it’s so powerful.
  65. One of your own. I’m sobbing.
  66. Not the line his dad said. The full circle hurts.
  67. I appreciate that that was their last interaction. She was willing to try and he had the hope that the relationship could get better.
  68. Excuse me while I continue to cry and then give Pedro a damn Emmy for this episode.
