Applying to Jobs Sucks

Hey guys. Mondays are usually Bachelor days, but we’re in between seasons. So, instead, I want to complain about something different. Applying to jobs. Edit: I clearly can’t get anything posted on Monday that isn’t Bachelor related. Oops.

It sucks, so much.

Why do they ask for you to upload your resume, and then the next page requires you to put in everything from your resume anyway? But you can’t just not put in a resume, because it won’t let you proceed. I spend more time rewriting my resume on job applications then I do actually looking at what the job is. And I’m sure plenty of people would agree.

And for another thing, the requirements for jobs are obnoxious. Entry level jobs will require 3-5 years experience, and a bachelor’s degree, and pay minimum wage. First off, if I had that much experience, I wouldn’t be looking at entry level jobs, now would I? And second, why would someone with that experience accept that low of pay? Or, there may be even worse ones that want more experience or a master’s degree, and be entry level pay still. Entry level jobs cannot pay off the loans from graduate school. There’s no way.

Now, I’m basing this off my experience and what I’ve heard about from others who have been applying to jobs. I’ve applied to over 120 jobs in the past 6 months. I’ve heard back from about half, and all rejections. I’ve had one interview, and maybe another getting set up soon, but the fact that I have three degrees and a wide variety of experience and still just get so many rejections says a lot. And it’s not just me. I’ve seen so many people complain about applying to jobs and never receiving anything back, or just getting rejections.

Places claim they want to hire people, but either have the craziest requirements for an entry level job, or reject every person who applies, despite being qualified, and often overqualified. I understand that they may not want someone who is very overqualified who may get a better job soon, but it seems everyone gets rejected nowadays.

I’ve gotten rejected from jobs and then found the exact same job still posted on job boards months later, despite the email rejection saying they went with other candidates. It seems many places just want to look like they are hiring, but don’t actually want to hire anyone.

I recall a story where someone applied to 60 jobs over a month, managed to get two interviews, and they lied about the pay for both jobs in the job posting. I’m sure a lot of places are actually hiring, but this trend seems to be continuing with people applying like crazy and just not getting responses or only rejections.

And it’s so annoying when people ask why you don’t have a job. Like, if you saw the number of applications I’ve sent out, number of cover letters I’ve written, and number of additional applications questions I’ve answered, you would still be just as confused. At least you would know it wasn’t because I’m being lazy.

So, in conclusion, job hunting sucks. The world is a mess. The end.
